Alum tours the world with Japan drumming group

This Cornell Alumni Magazine article tells the story of Leo Ikenaga ’12, a member of Kodo, an elite, 30-member Japanese musical group. The group is primarily focused on the dynamic drumming style known as taiko. Ikenega was introduced to taiko at Cornell, where he was a member and became musical director of Yamatai.

“Many people tell me they’ve never seen anything like us,” Ikenaga says in the story. “We’re a drumming group, but we explore all kinds of artistic possibilities. We try to create something that’s truly original and entertaining. I think we do something that’s very special, and it’s ineffable. You really need to come see it for yourself.”
