What was your most profound turning point while at Cornell?
My most profound turning point while at Cornell came during my sophomore year when I was officially choosing majors. I was considering choosing between computer science, Asian studies and linguistics. However, I did not want to give up studying any of them, and I decided to choose all three! This sent me on a really interesting academic path, and it was fun to try to combine the different fields together into a coherent experience.
What accomplishments/activities are you most proud of while at Cornell?
In the fall of 2016, I spent a semester studying abroad in Kyoto, Japan. This was a really important experience for me because I was able to learn more about Japanese culture in a very personal manner, as well as work to improve my Japanese language skills. I believe that studying abroad gave me the chance to deepen my understanding about the world around me and, in turn, deepen my understanding of myself.
What do you value about your liberal arts education?
I am grateful that my liberal arts education gave me the opportunity to simultaneously study different fields that I was interested in. The college requirements were flexible enough that I was able to structure a curriculum that was meaningful to me personally, which was a significant benefit to my Cornell experience.
