The Department of Asian Studies at Cornell University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (rank will be commensurate with experience) position in Mandarin Chinese language beginning July 1, 2021. Initial one-year probationary contract with possible renewal, contingent upon merit, the continued needs of the department, and availability of program funding.
Minimum qualifications: M.A. degree and native speaker level competency in Mandarin Chinese is required, as is prior college-level teaching experience and ability to teach all levels of Mandarin Chinese. Also required is an explicit understanding of the linguistic properties of Mandarin Chinese; knowledge of the cultural background necessary to teach the language; familiarity with language-teaching methodologies, including technology-related pedagogy and flexibility in using different teaching methodologies; and the ability to work both in a team and autonomously at all levels of the language. Supervisory experience is preferred.
